Resources Project Management
On the frontline of innovation, we more often than not find technical experts delivering and managing project work. The projects are not planned that way, they just turn out that way because we are focused on the technical nature of the innovation.
At S1 Consulting, we have found through our experience of managing resource projects that the core principles of sound project management apply whether the project is for start-of-the-art resource solutions or for more established, proven solutions.
So it doesn’t matter if the experts on the project are engineers, geologists, university professors, foresters, hydrologists, or environmental scientists, a sound project governance is still required to ensure success.
When we say project governance we are really referring to the structured approach that a project must follow. That is, the project lifecycle steps to keep the project activities in sync with the aims of the business so that the project remains focused on solving the problem before implementing the technical solution. This is about keeping the problem and the solution in sync.
There is no doubt that technical experts play an important role in the successful delivery of an environmental project. However there must be recognition of the different skills sets required to be an expert within a chosen field and being an expert in project management.
S1’s momentum methodology runs the project lifecycle in conjunction with the key project mastery activities of project management, transition management (change management), financial management, safety management, integration management, technical infrastructure, and programme management.
By treating project management as a stand alone discipline, S1 has successfully partnered with a number of technical experts to deliver environmental projects on time and on budget:
